~~~~~
Course Description:
THE COLLAPSE AND RESTORATION OF THE FAMILY
In this course we will draw on 20th-21st c. texts to explore the dissolution of the structure of the nuclear family as well as its current restoration. The world wars, existentialist movements and the sexual revolution will inform us about the weakening role of the father in the family, the assumption of the woman of masculine roles, and the autonomy of children. Papal encyclicals, intellectual works, films, and literature will contribute to our understanding of the trajectory of the family over the past 100 years.
From January 19 through April 27, 2010 classes will meet each Tuesday afternoon from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the college campus in Cromwell. The course will be taught by
Dr. Angelyn Arden who is a Professor in the Humanities and a full-time member of the Holy Apostles undergraduate faculty. Tuition for the 3-credit course is $350, plus a $10 application fee.
